St. Francis Hospital has worked very diligently to procure land in
order to provide for off-street parking.
We understand that the City has voted to eliminate angle parking
on December 1 , 1979. Up to this point we have:
1 . Procured two pieces of real estate in Lot 59 between the Courthouse
and the Hospital .
2. Negotiated with the Church of St. Mark's to procure a piece of land
for off-street parking.
At this point we have not finalized these negotiations. In addition,
we are working very actively with Scott County as well as our own
internal planning group to come up with a long range solution to
off street parking. In view of this, I would beg the City Council to
postpone the implementation of their ordinance to eliminate all angle
parking.
We agree wholeheartedly with the decision that the city council made
as reasonable, however, the very brief period between August 21 and
December 1 , for St. Francis Hospital to procure off-street parking is
somewhat unreasonable. In short, we do not have alternate parking
available until such a time as the property purchase is completed as
well as other plans have been finalized. I therefore ask for a waiver
from the City Council to allow angle parking until such a time as off-
street parking has been procured, provided that reasonable progress is
being made to procure such off-street parking facilities.
