SUBJECT: Authorization to Hire Economic Development Coordinator (E)
Action Sought
The City Council is asked to authorize the hiring of Samantha DiMaggio for the position of Economic
Development Coordinator.
Background
The 2013 budget includes funding for the new, full -time position of Economic Development Coordinator. The
position was advertised and a total of 25 applications were received. A panel consisting of the City Administrator,
Assistant City Administrator and Finance Director conducted first -round interviews of eight candidates. Three
were invited back for a second -round interview before a larger panel that included representatives of several
stakeholder groups such as the Chamber of Commerce, EDAC and Greater MSP.
Recommendation
The interview panel recommends hiring Samantha DiMaggio at Step D of Grade 8 of the City's 2013 Non -Union
Pay Plan ($66,864 per year), contingent upon successful completion of the required background check and
pre - employment physical / drug -test.
Budget Impact
As noted, funding for this position was included in the City's 2013 operating budget.

This items relates to Goal E: Deliver effective and efficient public services by a staff of well - trained, caring and
professional employees and Goal B: Positively manage the challenges and opportunities presented by growth,
development and change.
Requested Action
The Council is asked to authorize hiring Samantha DiMaggio for the position of Economic Development
Coordinator, at Step D of Grade 8 of the City's 2013 Non -Union Pay Plan, contingent upon successful completion
of the required background check and pre- employment physical / drug -test.
