Authorize the Purchase of 5 Police Interceptors and 1 Police Chief Vehicle Consent Business 4• C. 2• S IIAKoI'EE TO: Mayor and City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Mike Hullander, Public Works Superintendent DATE: 03/05/2013 SUBJECT: Authorize the Purchase of 5 Police Interceptors and 1 Police Chief Vehicle (C & E) Action Sought Move to authorize the purchase of five police interceptors and one chiefs vehicle from Nelson Auto Center for the amount of $156,124.71 in accordance with the State of Minnesota contract #37669. The funds to be expended from the Capital Equipment Internal Service Fund. Background The 2013 budget includes an appropriation of $225,000 for the purchase of five police interceptors and one chiefs vehicle. Funding is from the Capital Equipment Internal Service Fund. The new interceptors will replace five models purchased in 2009. The Chiefs vehicle will replace a 2003 Chevy Impala. The vendor cost for the 2013 Ford Police Interceptor Utility is $26,388.82 with a total of five interceptors at $131,944.10. The cost for the chiefs vehicle, a 2013 Ford Police Interceptor Sedan is $24,180.61. The total cost for this purchase is $156,124.71. Staff will be using State of Minnesota contract number 37669. The Police Department will manage the set -up and equipment purchases for these new vehicles after delivery. Recommendation Staff recommends authorizing the purchase. Budget Impact The funding has been appropriated in the 2013 Capital Equipment Budget. Relationship to Vision Maintain the City's strong financial health. Requested Action Move to authorize the purchase of five Police Interceptors and one Police Chief Vehicle from Nelson Auto Center in the amount of $156,124.71 in accordance with the State of Minnesota contract #37669.
