SUBJECT: Authorization to Hire Crime Prevention Specialist (E)
Action Sought
The Council is asked to authorize the hiring of Janna Grassel for the position of Crime Prevention Specialist.
Background
The City's 2013 operating budget includes funding for a full -time, civilian Crime Prevention Specialist. The
creation of this position will allow the Police Department to return the licensed officer who has been performing
these duties back to patrol.
The Police Civil Service Commission has conducted the necessary testing to establish an eligible register for the
position. The top three candidates on the eligible register are listed below, in alphabetical order:
Janna Grassel
Kimberly Mortenson
Laura Wiger
Recommendation
Chief Tate recommends that Janna Grassel be hired for the position at Step E of Grade 4 ($20.32 per hour) of the
non -union pay plan; dependent on successful completion of the required pre - employment physical / drug test and
psychological evaluation.
Budget Impact
Funding for this position was included in the Police Department's 2013 budget.
Relationship to Vision
This item relates to Goal E: Deliver effective and efficient public services by a staff of well- trained, caring and
professional employees.
Requested Action
The Council is asked to authorize the hiring of Janna Grassel for the position of Crime Prevention Specialist, at
Step E of Grade 4 of the 2013 Pay Plan for Non -Union Employees, subject to successful completion of the required
pre - employment screenings.
