HomeMy WebLinkAbout15.D.3. Fire Aerial Truck Engine Repair /0.0.3. CITY OF SHAKOPEE Memorandum TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: Mark McNeill, City Administrator SUBJECT: Fire Aerial Truck Engine Repair DATE: April 16,2004 INTRODUCTION: The Council is asked to approve repairs to the aerial truck of the Fire Department in the amount of$II,500. BACKGROUND: The Fire Department contacted the Public Works mechanics, stating that the 1994 aerial truck engine was generating considerable smoke. After the Public Works mechanics looked at it; it was taken to Boyer Trucks. They tore it apart, and indicated that a substantial overall was needed. Without it, the truck could not be run. The estimated cost for the overall is $11,500. I was advised of this on Friday, April16th, and I directed that the repairs be made (with an estimated completion by Tuesday, April 20th). In other words, by the time the Council acts on this, the repairs will already have been completed. However, because the City is dependent upon this particular piece of equipment for public safety aspects, in my opinion, we could not wait. We have no other OpInIOns. BUDGET IMPACT: Because this is unbudgeted, and over $10,000, it does need to have City Council approval. I will work with the Finance Director to find the source of funding for this. For the time being, it will taken from the Fire Department Operating Budget; because of the size of the expenditure, there maybe a need do a budget amendment later. RECOMMENDATION: I recommend that the Council affirm the expenditure necessary for the engine repair work to be done by Boyer Truck. ACTION REQUIRED: If the Council concurs, it should, by motion, affirm the repair work for the 1994 aerial truck to be done by Boyer Ford, at a cost of approximately $11,500. MfJ&<;f!
