SUBJECT: Surplus Property DATE: April 26, 2004 INTRODUCTION: Council is asked to declare certain items held by the Police Department as surplus property. BACKGROUND: The Police Department currently is in possession of numerous items that have been recovered/stored over the last several months. The attach memorandum from Community Service Officer Jaclyn Yzermans, lists the bicycles that can now be disposed of. In prior years the bicycles in good condition have been auctioned atthe Bicycle Safety Rally with the funds going into the City's General Fund. The bicycles that were not sold were disposed of. The Bicycle Safety Rally is scheduled for May 6th, 2004. Weare seeking council approval to dispose of the bicycles by auction or disposal. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends Council declare these items held by the Police Department as surplus property for the purpose of proper disposal. ACTION REQUESTED: If the Council concurs, it, should, by motion, declare these items surplus property and authorize staff to appropriately dispose of these items. FROM: CSO Yzermans SUBJECT: Bike Surplus Property On May 6th, 2004 the annual Bike Safety Rally will take place. It has been requested by the Parks and Recreation Department that the Police Department provide bikes for the silent auction. Currently the Police Department is in possession of 85 bikes that have been stored as found property for several months. These bikes have been quarried in NCIC and NWS with a cross comparison of stolen/lost bicycle reports. I came across one match and that property has been set aside so that I may contact the owner. The rest of the bikes did not have any matches in the state computer database or NWS. Attached is a list of those bicycles that are ready to be declared surplus property. .
