MEMORANDUM
To: Mayor and City Council COr~SENT
Mark McNeill, City Administrator
From: Mark Themig, Parks, Recreation & Facilities Director
Duane Toenyan, Facilities Maintenance Lead
Meeting Date: June 1, 2004
Subject: City Hall Air Conditioner Unit Replacement
INTRODUCTION
The two upper-level air conditioners on City Hall were installed in 1981 and have
reached their life expectancy. City Council is asked to authorize replacement of two units
from Associated Mechanical at a cost of $12,405.
BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION
Two of the air conditioning units for City Hall are in need of replacement. They were both
installed in 1981 when the building operated as a bank. Typical life expectancy from
these units is apparently 15 years, and we have exceeded that amount. One unit is a
five-ton model and the other is a 7.5-ton model.
lacement units and installation:
Amount
$12,122
$12,162
Associated Mechanical Contractors $12,405*
*The proposal from Associated is for high-efficiency units that would reduce electrical
consumption by 15-20%. In addition, these units are also eligible for a rebate of
approximately $785 from Shakopee Public Utilities.
RECOMMENDATION
We are recommending that City Council authorize replacement with the high-efficiency
units proposed by Associated Mechanical.
BUDGET IMPACT
This is an unbudgeted expenditure. However, Mr. Voxland has indicated that the city
received $48,000 from Petro fund reimbursements that can be used to fund this
replacement.
REQUESTED ACTION
Move to authorize replacement of City Hall air conditioning units by Associated
Mechanical at a cost of $12,405.
