No. 6071, A Resolution of Appreciation City of Shakopee If, It ~ Memorandum TO: Mayor, City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Tracy Schaefer, Assistant to the City Administrator SUBJECT: Operation Clean Up - Resolution of Appreciation DATE: July 6, 2004 Introduction City Council is asked to accept Resolution No. 6071, a Resolution of Appreciation to the Shakopee Senior High Operation Clean Up for their downtown clean up services on Saturday May 29, 2004. Background Shakopee Senior High Counselor, Paul Kelly, contacted me in May to find out how the Senior High group, OPERATION CLEAN UP, could help the city. In an effort to become more involved in the community and increase their peers' awareness of volunteer opportunities, Shakopee Senior High's Diversity Groups founded OPERATION CLEAN-UP, a new program that undertook its first challenge Saturday May 29th. The group of Asian and Latino minority students and their advisor, Senior High Counselor Paul Kelly, got together to clean the streets, sidewalks, and parking lots in Shakopee's downtown (that's right, high school students on a SATURDAY morning!). Counselor Paul Kelly and students Marco Risco, Doris Pedregura, Sergio Pedreguera, Amy Chanthakhoun, Jim Revere, Alan Rojas, Kimheang Pao, Arturo Calleja, Isreal Calleja, Gianina Rivera, Luz Pimentel, Olivia Sanaikone, Irene Viveros volunteered their services to the city. City staff provided the students with safety vests, garbage bags and the proper clean up supplies and tools, but the students provide the human power behind this great project. I would like to extend my gratitude to the students and Counselor Kelly for contacting the city and their incredible clean up job for Shakopee's downtown. I hope that this can become an annual tradition in Shakopee.
