Cox, City Clerk SUBJECT: Application for Taxicab License DATE: July 14, 2004 INTRODUCTION: City Council is asked to hold a public hearing on the application from Karen Sterling dba Shakopee Taxi for a taxicab license. BACKGROUND: Ms. Sterling has applied. for a taxicab license to operate within the City of Shako pee. She plans on operating only one vehicle to start with. She is not licensed in another community so does not qualify for the exception from obtaining a license as provided for in the city code. The required notice of application has been published in the City's official newspaper. The police department has conducted the required background investigation and has found nothing that would preclude Ms. Sterling from licensure. Ms. Sterling plans to purchase Shakopee Taxi from the current owners on August 1 st. At that time she will have the vehicle inspected and provide evidence of insurance. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve the application and grant a taxicab license to Karen Sterling dba Shakopee Taxi, conditioned upon meeting all requirements of the City Code; and upon the surrender of the current license to Oscar Salas dba Shakopee Taxi, if she intends to do business under the name of Shakopee Taxi. jV CITY OF SHAKOPEE Memorandum TO: Mayor and City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Judith S.
