SUBJECT: Downtown Fire Station Stucco Project

INTRODUCTION:
At its meeting of September 7th, the Council will be asked to award a contract for the
stucco work on the Downtown Fire Station (Station No. 50).
BACKGROUND:
In August, Council authorized staff to seek bids for the removal and replacements ofthe
exterior stucco at Downtown Fire Station No. 50. The plans and specifications for the
stuccowork were adopted by the Council at its meeting of August 4th, and advertisement
was made.
Bids were originally to be received on Friday, September 3rd. However, a bid
amendment had to be made on Seftember 1 st, which necessitated the delay of the bid
opening to Tuesday, September 7t at 10:00 a.m. The results ofthat bid opening will be
shared with the City Council at its meeting later that evening.
BUDGET IMPACT:
The estimated cost ofthe project was in the $65,000 to $70,000 range.
RECOMMENDATION:
A recommendation with is forthcoming at the September ih meeting.
It is important that this work be awarded without delay, so as to avoid additional costs as
a result of doing stucco placement in cold temperatures.
ACTION REQUIRED:
A resolution with a recommended contractor for the downtown Fire Station No. 50 stucco
will be available for Council to act upon at the September 7th meeting.

RESOLUTION NO. 6111
A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING BIDS AND
AWARDING A CONTRACT FOR THE STUCCOWORK AT
THE DOWNTOWN FIRE STATION NO. 50, SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA
WHEREAS, pursuant to an advertisement for bids for the downtown fire station
stucco project, on September 7,2004, bids were received, opened and tabulated
according to law, and the following bids were received which complied with the
advertisement:

Gausman Plastering & Stucco, White Bear Lake $ 70,154
Greystone Construction, Shakopee $ 88,989
WHEREAS, the City of Shakopee desires to award a contract for the stuccowork
on the downtown Shakopee fires station; and
WHEREAS, Gausman Plastering & Stucco, Inc., White Bear Lake, Minnesota, is
the lowest responsible bidder for the stucco improvements.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA:
1. The appropriate City officials are hereby authorized and directed to enter
into a contract with Gausman Plastering & Stucco, Inc., in the name ofthe
City of Shakopee for the Downtown Fire Station No. 50 stucco contract in
accordance with the plans and specifications approved the City Council
and on file in the office of the City Clerk.
2. That the City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to return forthwith to
all bidders the deposits made with their bids, except the deposits ofthe
successful bidder and the next lowest bidder shall be retained until a
contract has been signed.
Adopted in regular session of the City Council ofthe City of Shakopee,
Minnesota, held this 7th day of September, 2004.
