Accept Resignation of the Assistant to the City Administrator 15~ ~ !, CITY OF SHAKOPEE Memorandum TO: Mayor and City Council CONSENT FROM: Mark McNeill, City Administrator SUBJECT: Assistant to the City Administrator Resignation DATE: September 3,2004 INTRODUCTION: The Council is asked to accept the resignation of Tracy Schaefer from her position as Assistant to the City Administrator. BACKGROUND: Tracy Schaefer began employment with the City of Shakopee in May, 2000. Since that time, she has gained experience in a wide variety of areas. She served as staff proj ect manager for the new library construction, is now close to finishing the second of two City websites, and has provided support for a wide variety of municipal projects. Regionally, she gained a reputation as an expert in the fields of information technology, having spearheaded a nationally-unique Institutional-network partnership between the City, Scott County, and I.S.D. 720. She also is an expert in areas of cable television franchise renewals, and in solid waste and recycling contracts. It was because ofthe latter areas that Ms. Schaefer was offered ajob working for a consultant. She has accepted that offer; her last day is September 23rd. Weare not ready at this point to have Council direct that a replacement be advertised. Department heads and I will discuss the type of qualifications that a replacement individual should have; that will be brought back to the Council at a future meeting. RECOMMENDATION: I recommend acceptance of the resignation of Tracy Schaefer as Assistant to the City Administrator. ACTION REQUIRED: If the Council concurs, it should, by motion, accept with regret the resignation of Tracy Schaefer as Assistant to the City Administrator, effective September 23,2004. .~~ Mark McNeill City Administrator MM:th
