FROM: Mark McNeill, City Administrator
SUBJECT: Assistant to the City Administrator Resignation
DATE: September 3,2004
INTRODUCTION:
The Council is asked to accept the resignation of Tracy Schaefer from her position as
Assistant to the City Administrator.
BACKGROUND:
Tracy Schaefer began employment with the City of Shakopee in May, 2000. Since that

manager for the new library construction, is now close to finishing the second of two City
websites, and has provided support for a wide variety of municipal projects. Regionally,
she gained a reputation as an expert in the fields of information technology, having
spearheaded a nationally-unique Institutional-network partnership between the City, Scott
County, and I.S.D. 720. She also is an expert in areas of cable television franchise
renewals, and in solid waste and recycling contracts.
It was because ofthe latter areas that Ms. Schaefer was offered ajob working for a
consultant. She has accepted that offer; her last day is September 23rd.
Weare not ready at this point to have Council direct that a replacement be advertised.
Department heads and I will discuss the type of qualifications that a replacement
individual should have; that will be brought back to the Council at a future meeting.
RECOMMENDATION:
I recommend acceptance of the resignation of Tracy Schaefer as Assistant to the City
Administrator.
ACTION REQUIRED:
If the Council concurs, it should, by motion, accept with regret the resignation of Tracy
Schaefer as Assistant to the City Administrator, effective September 23,2004.
