SUBJECT: Request by Canterbury Park to Place Private Road Sign in City Right-of-Way
MEETING DATE: September 7, 2004
INTRODUCTION:
Canterbury Park wishes to name one of its internal roads in honor of one of its board members, Brian
Barenscheer. Mr. Barenscheer has served on the Canterbury Park board of directors since 1994. (See
letter from Mark Erickson dated July 28,2004) They also wish to place street signs identifying the
newly-named private road in both City and county right-of-way, and to have the street included on city
maps. The city's maps do currently include the names of private streets..
ALTERNATIVES:
1. Offer and pass a motion authorizing the appropriate.City officials to take the steps necessary
to allow the placement of a street sign for the proposed "Barenscheer Boulevard" within City
right-of-way, and to include said street on city maps.
2. Do not approve the requested street signs in public right-of-way.
ACTION REQUESTED:

Dear Sir or Madam:
Canterbury Park would like permission to name one of our roads after long time board
member Brian Barenscheer.
Brian has been a board member since April 1994. Because of his service to Canterbury
Park and the horse industry, we would like to honor him by naming the Canterbury Park
gate 2-entry road "Barenscheer Blvd."
The road runs East and West from County Road 83 (Canterbury Road); intersects
Canterbury Park entry gate road #3 and runs into Shenandoah Dr.
We would like to install a sign at each of these intersections for a total of3 signs. All 3
signs would be on Canterbury Park property. The CR83/Canterbury Road sign would be
in the Scott Co. right of way. The Shenandoah Dr. sign would be in the City of Shako pee
. right of way.
Please review the enclosed map for reference. I
The signs would be similar in specifications to City of Shatcopee street signs and
Canterbury Park would pay for the cost of the signs.
We would like the road name to be identified on future city and county maps.

the above application with the attached conditions and requirements:
Scott County Ordinance 22, Management or the Public Right-or-Way, Section 119: The excavation, backfilling, patching and
restoration, and all other work performed in the right-of-way shall be done in conformance with Minnesota Rules 7819.11 00,
7819.5000 and 7819.5100 and shall conform to MnDOT standard specifications and other applicable local requirements, in so
far as they are not inconsistent with the Minn. Stat. ~ 237.162 and 237.163.
