No. 6113 CITY OF SHAKOPEE POLICE DEPARTMENT J5.t3./~ Memorandum TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council CO~~SEr~T FROM: Mark McNeill, City AdminiSW Dan Hughes, Chief of Police SUBJECT: Resolution for Southwest Metro Drug Task Force Participation DATE: September 13,2004 INTRODUCTION: The Council is asked to consider Resolution #6113, a resolution of the City of Shako pee regarding participation in the Southwest Metro Drug Task Force. BACKGROUND: For the past several years the state and federal governments have encouraged local law enforcement agencies to form regional task forces to investigate drug law violations. Significant sums of federal and state drug enforcement money are distributed to task forces. The Shakopee Police Department has been a member of the Southwest Metro Drug Task Force since its inception and wishes to continue participation in the task force for as long as possible. TheCity currently serves as the financial agent of the Task Force and has served in the capacity. for several.years. ALTERNATIVES: 1. Offer Resolution #6113. 2. Do not offer Resolution #6113. 3. Table and provide staff with direction. RECOMMENDATION: Alternative #1 ACTION REQUESTED: Offer Resolution #6113, a resolution to enter a cooperative agreement with the Office of Drug Policy in the Minnesota Department of Public Safety for participation in the Southwest Metro Drug Task Force. RESOLUTION NO. 6113 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, REGARDING PARTICIPATION IN THE SOUTHWEST METRO DRUG TASK FORCE WHEREAS, The City has participated in the Southwest Metro Drug Task Force since its inception; and WHEREAS, the Task Force has successfully brought about numerous drug convictions; and WHEREAS, each year the City enters into a cooperative agreement in order to continue to participate. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, AS FOLLOWS: That the Mayor, City Administrator and City Clerk are hereby are authorized to enter into a cooperative agreement with the Office of Drug Policy in the Minnesota Department of Public Safety for the project entitled Southwest Metro Drug Task Force for the calendar year 2005.
