IS: E, 3"
CITY OF SHAKOPEE
MEMORANDUM CO~JSENT
To: Mayor and City Council
Mark McNeill, City Administrator
From: Mark Themig, Parks, Recreation, and Facilities Director
Meeting Date: November 16, 2004
Subject: Accept Natural Resource Specialist Resignation and Authorize Filling
the Vacancy
INTRODUCTION
City Council is asked to accept the resignation of Terry Meiller, Natural Resource
Specialist, and authorize filling the vacancy.
BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION
Mr. Meiller was hired in August to fill the newly created Natural Resource Specialist
position. He has submitted his resignation to accept a position with the Carver County
Soil and Water Conservation District. Although I am disappointed, I respect his decision
for pursing work that more closely fits his interests and strengths.
If Council wants to continue providing natural resource services, we should fill the
position. The certified applicant list for the position is still active, and there are 15 eligible
candidates on the list. I would recommend that we first review the eligible list of
applicants for another suited candidate. If none are found, then we would need to
advertise for the position.
ACTION REQUESTED:
If City Council concurs, move to accept the resignation of Terry Meiller, Natural
Resource Specialist, and authorize filling the vacancy.

RE: Letter of Resignation
Dear Mark,
It is with my sincerest apologies that I inform you that I am giving you my two week
notice for the Natural Resource Specialist position with the City of Shakopee. I have just
been offered a position with the Carver County Soil and Water Conservation District and
given an opportunity to continue my career in soil conservation. This opportunity allows
me to work with agricultural producers and landowners in an environment that better
suites my interests and strengths, and one that I had enjoyed so much the last few years. I
am very grateful for the opportunity that I was given to work for the City of Shakopee,
and regret leaving such a great group of people. My last day of employment for the City
of Shakopee will be November 19th.
Thank You
