CITY OF SHAKOPEE
Memorandum
TO: Mayor and City Council CONSENT
FROM: Mark McNeill, City Administrator
SUBJECT: 2005 City Benefits Contribution
DATE: November 9,2004
INTRODUCTION:
The Council is asked to adopt a resolution setting the maximum contribution for 2005
employee insurance benefits.
BACKGROUND:
Each year, the Council determines the amount that it will contribute towards certain
employee benefits, such as health insurance, dental insurance, and post employment
health plans.
The attached resolution identifies those contributions. After negotiations with Medica,
we are pleased to report that the 2005 health insurance coverage reflects an average of a
3.4% increase. The proportion of payment between the City and the employee is
proposed to remain the same - 100% City cost for single coverage employees; 88% for
two-party, and 72.5% for family coverage. The City's contribution towards post
employment health coverage for employees remains at $25.00 per month. In addition,
the rates for employee dental insurance remains unchanged.
BUDGET IMPACT:
All of these expenses are included in the 2005 operating budget.
RECOMMENDATION:
I recommend that the council adopt the contribution levels for 2005 as described.
ACTION REQUIRED:
If the Council concurs, it should, by motion, adopt the following resolution:
