SUBJECT: Retirement of Human Resources Coordinator Marilyn Remer
DATE: December 28, 2006
Introduction
The City Council is asked to accept the attached notice of retirement submitted by Human
Resources Coordinator Marilyn Remer, effective January 19, 2007 and adopt the attached
resolution of appreciation.
Background
Marilyn Remer began working for the City in September of 1982. After twenty-four and a half
years of dedicated service, she has submitted notice of her intent to retire, effective January 19,
2007. Following the restructuring of human resources responsibilities this past summer, Ms.
Remer has been training the City's new HR Technician and the Assistant City Administrator to
assume her responsibilities in the areas of payroll, benefits, and numerous other personnel
matters. Therefore, there are no plans to fill the position of Human Resources Coordinator at this
time.
Councilmembers are invited to join City staff for a reception for Ms. Remer, scheduled for
Wednesday, January 17 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Council chambers.
Recommendation
Staff recommends that the notice of retirement be accepted and that the attached resolution of
appreciation be adopted.
Requested Action
The Council is asked to offer a motion to accept the retirement notice of Marilyn Remer and to
offer Resolution No. 6557, A Resolution of Appreciation to Marilyn Remer, and move its
adoption.

Re: Retirement
Please accept this letter as notification of my official retirement as Human Resources
Coordinator for the City of Shakopee effective January 19,2007.
In the twenty-four and one-half years I have been employed by the city, I have been provided
with numerous opportunities for professional and personal development. My unique position has
allowed me to meet many wonderful people. While I look forward to enjoying my retirement, I
will miss those relationships. I only hope I was able to be an aspiration to everyone as much as I
was aspired!
Thank you for your support and the phased retirement period that was crucial in making this
transition happen.

RESOLUTION NO. 6557
A RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION
TO MARILYN REMER
WHEREAS, Marilyn M. Remer began her employment with the City of
Shakopee on September 9, 1982, as a Senior Accounting Clerk
WHEREAS, Ms. Remer has subsequently served in the positions of Senior
Accounting Clerk/Personnel Coordinator, Payroll/Benefits Coordinator and Human
Resources Coordinator;
WHEREAS, Ms. Remer has provided accurate and dedicated service to the City
of Shakopee, its residents and its employees for twenty- four and a half years;
WHEREAS, Ms. Remer has assisted countless City employees on topics
including new employee orientations, payroll, personnel policies, and benefits
coordination;
WHEREAS, Ms. Remer has performed a variety of accounting, payroll and
personnel activities with great lmowledge, attention to detail and thoroughness;
WHEREAS, Ms. Remer has graciously passed on her extensive lmowledge of
personnel laws, policies and practices;
WHEREAS, Marilyn M. Remer will retire from her position has Human
Resources Coordinator on January 19, 2007.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED.BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITYOF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, that it does hereby express its deep
appreciation to Marilyn M. Remer for her twenty four and a half years of dedicated
service to the City of Shakopee.
Adopted in regular session of the City Council of the City of Shakopee,
Minnesota held this 2nd day of January, 2007.
