Consent CITY OF SHAKOPEE MEMORANDUM To: Mayor and City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator From: Mark Themig, Parks, Recreation and Facilities Director Brad Eller, Recreation Supervisor Meeting Date: February 1, 2005 Subject: Creation of Accessibility Task Force, Resolution No. 6180 INTRODUCTION In order to create a more permanent city record, Council is asked to adopt Resolution No. 6180, A Resolution Creating the Accessibility Task Force. BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION In October 2004, City Council authorized the creation of an accessibility task force to assist the city with implementing the action steps set forth in the 2004 accessibility study. We advertised for resident participation on the task force, and received six volunteers: Audrey Brown Mark Brown Jennifer Clark Brad King Carla Kress Arvid Sornberger Patricia Tietz Audrey, Mark, Jennifer, Brad, Arid, and Patricia all either have a disability or have a family member with a disability. Carla is a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist for the City of Eden Prairie and very knowledgeable on accessibility issues. The task force has had two introductory meetings, and will begin the more detailed work laid out in the accessibility study in February. Their preliminary schedule is as follows: February: Transition plan self evaluation March-April: Programs and services that the city offers May: Communications and forms June: Employee awareness and Training July: Transportation, special events, emergency procedures I would anticipate that there will be periodic action items from these meetings that come to Council for discussion. Finally, we metwith staff responsible for implementing the Priority 1 corrections from the accessibility study that Council directed last year. At your February 14 meeting, we will have an update on the status of those corrections.
