CITY OF SHAKOPEE Memorandum I TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: Mark McNeill, City Administrator SUBJECT: Resolution of Appreciation DATE: February 10,2005 INTRODUCTION: At its meeting of February I 5th, the City Council will be asked to adopt a resolution of appreciation and "welcome back" to Public Works employee Rodney Beck. BACKGROUND: Only three months after Rodney Beck was hired as a Public Works Maintenance Operator on December 9, 2002, he was called to active duty in his service as an Air Reservist on March I, 2003. During the nearly two years that he was away from Shakopee, Rodney served as a crew chief on Air Force C-130 transportation flights, both on the east coast and in Iraq. He has completed his tour of duty, and on February 7th, returned to employment with the City of Shakopee. We are grateful to him for the sacrifices that he made while on active duty, and are glad that he has returned safely. To commemorate this, weare proposing to Council to adopt the attached resolution. RECOMMENDATION: I recommend that the Council adopt the resolution of appreciation and welcome. ACTION REQUIRED: If the Council concurs, it should, by motion, adopt the following resolution: RESOLUTION NO. 6191 RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION AND WELCOME BACK TO CITY EMPLOYEE RODNEY BECK FROM MILITARY SERVICE ~d2 ~ Wi Mark McNeill City Administrator MM:th RESOLUTION NO. 6191 RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION AND WELCOME BACK TO CITY EMPLOYEE RODNEY BECK FROM MILITARY SERVICE WHEREAS, Rodney Beck was hired as a Maintenance Operator in the Public Works Department on December 9,2002; and WHEREAS, Rodney Beck was called to active duty as an Air Reservist on March 1,2003; and WHEREAS, for nearly two years, Rodney Beck served his Countly as a member of a flight crew in the United States, and in the Iraqi theatre of operations; and WHEREAS, having completed his tour of duty, Rodney Beck has retumed to employment with the City of Shako pee on FebrualY 7, 2005. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHAKO PEE, MINNESOTA, that it hereby welcomes back Rodney Beck to his employment with the City of Shakopee. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that on behalf of the residents of Shako pee, it hereby extends its gratitude to Rodney Beck for the sacrifices made to his personal, family, and professional lives while helping to safeguard the freedom ofthe United States of America and its allies.
