Police Department CONSENT Memorandum TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Erron Balfanz, Sergeant 4~ SUBJECT: Authorization to Hire Community Service Officer DATE: March 24, 2005 INTRODUCTION: The Police Department is requesting Council approval to hire one probationary part-time Community Service Officer (C.S.O.) to fill a budgeted position. BACKGROUND: The Civil Service Commission recently conducted the necessary testing and a new eligible register was created. The following three names are currently listed on the eligible register, in alphabetical order. Thor Carlson Jacob Rudolph Kimberly Wasiloski Minnesota State Statute Chapter 419 requires the Police Civil Service Commission to submit the top three names listed on the eligible register to the Appointing Authority (City Council), to fill any vacancy. ALTERNATIVES: 1. Do not authorize the hire. 2. Authorize the hire of Jacob Rudolph at 30 hours per week. RECOMMENDATION: Alternative #2. Staff recommends Council authorize the hiring of Jacob Rudolph as a 30- hour per week, probationary part-time, Community Service Officer. BUDGET IMPACT: The position was budgeted for in the 2005 Police Department Budget. ACTION REQUESTED: If the Council concurs, they should, by motion, authorize the hiring of Jacob Rudolph as a probationary part-time, 30-hour per week, Community Service Officer at an hourly rate of$14.116, subject to the satisfactory completion of pre-employment medical and psychological examinations.
