INTRODUCTION:
The Council is asked to adopt a Resolution amending the 2005 Pay Plan.
BACKGROUND:
Ajob description for a Graduate Engineer I classification and placement at Grade 5 on
the pay plan was approved by City Council in November, 2001 to allow the engineering
department greater flexibility in the recruitment process. The classification was not
utilized and subsequently was removed from the pay schedule.
Under separate cover, City Council action is being requested to approve a revised
Graduate Engineer job description and placement on the 2005 pay schedule at Grade 6
which is the recommended placement by Rod Kelsey, the City's Pay Consultant.
ACTION REQUESTED:
If Council concurs, it should, by motion adopt:

A RESOLUTION AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 6156 WHICH ADOPTED
THE 2005 PAY SCHEDULE FOR THE OFFICERS AND NON-UNION
EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF SHAKO PEE
WHEREAS, on December 7, 2004, the City Council of the City of Shakopee,
Minnesota, adopted Resolution No. 6156, approving the 2005 Pay Schedule for the
Officers and Non-Union Employees ofthe City of Shakopee; and
WHEREAS, on March 22,2005, the City Council ofthe City of Shako pee,
Minnesota, approved the addition of four firefighter positions raising the maximum
number of authorized firefighters for 2005 to a total of fifty-four firefighters; and,
WHEREAS, on November 20, 2001, the City Council approved the job
description for a Graduate Engineer I classification allowing for greater flexibility in the
recruitment process attracting recent engineering graduates. Subsequently, the new
classification was not utilized and was removed from the pay schedule; and
WHEREAS, on AprilS, 2005, the City Council approved a revised job
description for a Graduate Engineer classification with placement in Grade 6 of the 2005
Pay Schedule.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, that the attached 2005 Pay Schedule for the Elected
Officials and Fire Department Personnel is hereby amended to change the authorized
number of Firefighters to fifty-four (54) and the attached 2005 Classification Grade
Levels and Maximums schedule is amended to include the classification of Graduate
Engineer in Grade Level 6.
