'(, CITY OF SHAKOPEE Memorandum TO: Mayor & City Council COI~~i:'~T .~- Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Jeff Weyandt, Assistant City Engineer SUBJECT: Consider Approving Plans and Ordering Advertisement for Bids for the 2005 Street Reconstruction, Project No. 2005-1 DATE: April 19, 2005 INTRODUCTION: Attached is Resolution No. 6226, which approves the plans and specifications and authorizes staff to advertise for bids for the 2005 Street Reconstruction, Project No. 2005-1. BACKGROUND: On November 16, 2004, City Council ordered the preparation of a feasibility report for the 2005 Reconstruction on the following streets: . Sommerville Street, from 4th Avenue to 5th Avenue and from 6th Avenue to Shakopee Avenue . Fuller Street, from 10th A venue to 8th Avenue . Apgar Street, from 10th A venue to Meadows North . Scott Street, from 10th Avenue to Meadows North . Atwood Street, from 10th Avenue to Meadows North On February 15, 2005, Council adopted Resolution No. 6181, a resolution receiving a feasibility report and calling for a public hearing on the 2005 Street Reconstruction Project. On March 15,2005, a public hearing was held and at that meeting, City Council did adopt Resolution No. 6205, a resolution ordering the improvements and the preparation of plans and specifications for this project. Staff has completed the plans for the street reconstruction and would request that City Council approve the plans and authorize advertisement for bids, with the intent to have the bids be considered at the May 17, 2005 Council meeting for the work to be done yet this summer. Due to Chapter 429 requirements, the City must advertise the project for 21 days. The bid opening is scheduled for Monday, May 16, 2005. As a result staffwill have a memo on the table for Councilto consider at the May 17, 2005 Council meeting. ALTERNATIVES: 1. Adopt Resolution No. 6226, A Resolution Approving Plans and Specifications and Ordering Advertisement for Bids for the 2005 Street Reconstruction, Project No. 2005-1. 2. Deny Resolution No. 6226. 3. Table for additional information. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends Alternative No.1, to approve plans and specifications in order to proceed with this project, as outlined in this memo. ACTION REQUESTED: Offer Resolution No. 6226, A Resolution Approving Plans and Specifications and Ordering Advertisement for Bids for the 2005 Street Reconstruction, Project No. 2005-1, and move its adoption. ~ ~~ Jeff Weyandt Assistant City Engineer JW/pmp ENGR/2005PROJECT/2005RECON/WORD/MEM06226 RESOLUTION NO. 6226 A Resolution Approving Plans And Specifications And Ordering Advertisement For Bids For The 2005 Street Reconstruction Project No. 2005-1 WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 6205 adopted by City Council on March 15,2005, Bruce Loney, Public Works Director has prepared plans and specifications for improvements for the2005 Street Reconstruction, which includes Sommerville Street, from 4th Avenue to 5th Avenue and from 6th Avenue to Shakopee Avenue; Fuller Street, from 10th Avenue to 8th Avenue; Apgar Street, from 10th Avenue to Meadows North; Scott Street, from 10th Avenue to Meadows North; and Atwood Street, from 10th A venue to Meadows North by the installation of sanitary sewer, watermain, storm sewer, street reconstruction, aggregate base, bituminous paving, curb & gutter, concrete sidewalk and any appurtenant work, and has presented such plans and specifications to the Council for approval. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA: 1. Such plans and specifications, a copy of which is on file and of record in the Office of the City Engineer, are hereby approved. 2. The City Clerk shall prepare and cause to be inserted in the official paper and in the Construction Bulletin an advertisement for bids upon the making of such improvement under such approved plans and specifications. The Advertisement for Bids shall be published as required by law. Adopted in session of the City Council of the City of Shakopee, Minnesota, held this day of ,2005.
