Elb_ CITY OF SHAKOPEE Memorandum CONSE~JT To: Mayor and City Council Mark McNeil, City Administrator From: Ed Schwaesdall, Fire Chief;; Mtl1 c..f1- Date: 4-29-2005 Re: Recommendation to hire 8 firefighters Introduction: The Shakopee Fire Department requests at this time to recommend to hire 8 candidates to fill our roster to 51 firefighters, contingent upon successful completion of their pre- employment physical examinations. Background In February 2005 the Shakopee Fire Department started the hiring process to fill the vacancies on the department. Eight candidates were interviewed and passed the physical agility tests administered by the Fire Department. Marilyn Remer, Payrol1/Benefits Coordinator scheduled and coordinated the background and driver's license investigation, and psychological evaluation phases of the hiring process and has indicated successful completion. The eight candidates have been scheduled for the pre-employment physical examination including drug/alcohol testing. This the final phase ofthe hiring process and employment is contingent on the candidates being medically recommended. This would fill the vacancies on the Shakopee Fire Department. Action Request Approve the hiring ofthe following candidates as Shakopee Fire Fighters to a one-year probationary period contingent on successful completion of the pre-employment physical: Jarrett Heller David Giddings Blane Witwicke Matthew Schlenk Scott Davis Michael Korba Darren Giese Jeremy Gjovik
