S; CITY OF SHAKOPEE Memorandum TO: Mayor & City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Bruce Loney, Public Works Director SUBJECT: Hiring of Office Service Worker for the Public Works Department DATE: May 3, 2005 INTRODUCTION: Office Service Worker candidates have been interviewed from the Scott County certification list to fill the position that was included in the 2005 Budget and authorized by City Council for advertisement on February 1, 2005. The purpose of this agenda item is to recommend to the City Council to authorize the hiring of Jessica Adamiez to this position. BACKGROUND: In the 2005 Budget, a full-time office service worker was included in the Public Works Department. Currently, the Public Works Department has had a clerical person for 20 hours per week in 2003 and 2004. The recommendation by Short-Elliott-Hendrickson Organizational Study is for a full-time clerical person reporting to the Public Works Supervisor to improve the management of records, organization of files and reports for the Street, Park and Shop Maintenance Divisions, as well as sanitary and storm drainage enterprise funds. Staff utilized Scott County Personnel Department for the selection process in determining the interview list. The interview panel consisted of the Public Works Director, Bruce Loney; Public Works Supervisor, Mike Hullander; Payroll Benefits Clerk, Marilyn Remer; and Terry Scherer, Records Specialist of the Police Department. A total of eight persons were interviewed and after reviewing the results of the interview, application and reference check, the recommendation from the interview panel is to hire Jessica Adamietz. Ms. Adamietz has worked for the city of Jordan for the past three years in a similar position and performing a variety of clerical and financial duties. The anticipated starting date for this person is May 23, 2005 and this would be contingent upon a successful pre-employment physical and background check. The position was advertised at Grade 3, Step E to Step B which is $15.527 to $18.403 per hour. This is a non-exempt position and the employee is eligible for overtime pay. This person has agreed to the starting wage of $l7.46l per hour, which is Grade 3, Step C ofthe 2005 Non-Union Pay Plan. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the hiring of Jessica Adamietz as the Public Works Office Service Worker at Grade 3, Step C ($17.461 per hour) of the 2005 Non-Union Pay Plan. Also, the anticipated starting date is May 23,2005. ACTION REQUESTED: Move to authorize the hiring of Jessica Adamietz as Public Works Office Service Worker and to be hired at Grade 3, Step C ($17.46 per hour) of the 2005 Non-Union Pay Plan effective May 23, 2005 and subject to pre-employment physical and background check. l::: Jr; ruee Loney .
