SUBJECT: Authorization to Fill Sergeant Position - Officer '{om Crocker
INTRODUCTION
The Police Department is requesting Council approval to fiU a vacant Police Sergeant
position.
BACKGROUND .
The Police Department has one vacant Police Sergeant position, created by the
resignation of Sergeant John Flynn effective May 6, 2005.
The Police Civil Service Commission has conducted the necessary testing that created the
Police Sergeant eligible register. The following names are the top candidates listed, in
alphabetical order, on the eligible register established by the Police Civil Service
Commission.
. Brad Bisek
. . Tom Crocker
. Angela Trutnau
Minnesota State Statute Chapter 419 requires the Police Civil Service Commission to
submit the top three names listed on the eligible register to the Appointing Authority
(City Council), to fill any vacancy.
Staff recommends that Tom Crocker be appointed to the position of Sergeant at Step 3 of
the current Police Sergeant labor contract.
BUDGET IMP ACT:
Funds exist in the Police Department 2005 budget for this position.
ALTERNATIVES:
1. Authorize the appointment
2. Do not authorize the appointment
RECOMMENDATION:
Alternative #l. Staff recommends Council authorize the appointment of Tom Crocker as
a probationary Police Sergeant.
ACTION REQUESTED:
If the Council concurs, they should, by motion, authorize the appointment of
probationary Police Sergeant Tom Crocker at Step 3 of the current police sergeant's labor
contract, at a monthly rate of $5,097.32.
