BACKGROUND:
The workload of our Police Records unit has increased dramatically along with the
increase in sworn staff and the rapid growth of Shakopee. There is an immediate
need to hire an additional Records Technician to assure compliance with state data

assist officers and to meet the needs ofthe public requesting report copies or public
data.
Our Records staffhas not increased since 1992, when a vacated half-time position
was authorized by Council to be a three-quarters time position effective January 1,
2002. The Police Department has added 14 Police Officers and 2 Community
Service Officers since last hiring a records technician.
The Police Department anticipates an additional opening in June of 2005 when
Patty Mohrbacher retires.
