J# CITY OF SHAKOPEE MEMORANDUM CONSENT To: Mayor and City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator From: Brad Eller, Recreation Supervisor Meeting Date: May 3, 2005 Subject: Acceptance of Siwek Lumber and Millwork, Inc. Donation, Resolution No. 6225 INTRODUCTION City Council is asked to adopt Resolution No. 6225, A Resolution of the City of Shakopee, Minnesota, accepting a donation of fire treated lumber and materials for the construction of a permanent stage and performance area in the teen center facilty from Siwek Lumber and Millwork, Inc. BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION The teen center facility has been utilizing a temporary stage system borrowed from the Shakopee Jaycees during its first year of operation. The regularity of events that required stage use deemed it appropriate for staff to explore the possibility of installing a permanent stage. During the research process, a local teenager mentioned that her dad may be able to help us out with lumber ordering and cost. Contact was made with Dave Siwek, of Siwek Lumber and Millwork, Inc. Dave helped to draft a stage plan through Behr Drafting and a materials list was put together. The stage required fire treated lumber, which has a considerably higher cost than normal lumber. Siwek Lumber and Millwork, Inc. recognized the budget constraints of the teen center and wanted to help out a facility that provided positive opportunities for teens. Dave Siwek and Siwek Lumber and Millwork, Inc. offered to donate a large portion of the lumber cost, estimated at approximately $1500.
