CITY OF SHAKOPEE
Memorandum
TO: Mayor and City Council
FROM: Mark McNeill, City Administrator
SUBJECT: Special Meetings
DATE: April 28, 2005
INTRODUCTION:
The purpose of this memo is to establish meeting dates for two joint meetings.
BACKGROUND:
At the Aprill9th meeting, staffwas directed by Council to establish dates for joint
meeting with SPUC, the School Board, Townships, and the Scott County Board.
. Townships - We suggest that the joint meeting be held with Jackson and
Louisville Townships to discuss budgets at a workshop in August. The date will
be established at a later time.
. County Board - In lieu of the County Commissioner and County Administrator
appearing before the Council with a "report" as has been done in years past, this
year a joint meeting between the County Board and the City Council is desired.
(The Scott County Board has already met with the City Council of Savage, and is
making arrangements to do this for other cities in Scott County). About an hour
would be needed. We would suggest a workshop meeting to begin at5:00 PM
prior to the June 7th City Council meeting.
. School Board - The Council already must meet at 7:00 PM on Thursday, May
26th to canvass the results ofthe referendum, which is being held on Tuesday,
May 24th. As long as it is gathered for that meeting (which should take only a
very short amount of time), a joint meeting with the School Board is also possible.
The School Board is available. (Please note that because of an AMM Board of
Directors Meeting that evening, I will not be able to attend).
. SPUC will be scheduled at a later date.
RECOMMENDATION:
I recommend that two special meetings be called for the purpose of joint meetings with
other jurisdictions:
June ih, 5:00 PM - With the Scott County Board
May 26th, 7:05 PM - With the Shakopee School Board
ACTION REQUIRED:
If the Council concurs, it should establish joint meetings with the Scott County Board at
5:00 PM on June 7,2005, and the Shakopee School Board at 7:05 PM on May 26,2005.
