No. 7261 y. 3• nnp City of Shakopee MEMORANDUM TO: Mayor and City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Kris Wilson, Assistant City Administrator SUBJECT: 2013 Wages for Part-Time, Temporary & Seasonal Employees DATE: November 30, 2012 Requested Action The Council is asked to authorize 2013 wage rates for the City's part -time, temporary and seasonal employees. Background The City's pay plan for part -time, temporary and seasonal employees establishes hourly wage rates for a wide range of positions, including many Community Center staff, lifeguards, Learn to Skate Instructors, and seasonal Public Works employees. It has been the City's practice not to grant across the board increases to the wage ranges on this pay plan each and every year but rather to review it periodically and adjust as necessary. A substantial review of the wage rates and our recruitment and retention needs was conducted in preparation for the 2012 pay plan, which lead to several increases and the addition of a fifth step in may pay grades. The existing structure and wage amounts appear to be working well for the City, therefore no further changes are recommended for 2013. The Council is simply asked to authorize continuation of the existing pay plan for another year. Budget Impact The City's preliminary 2013 budget was based on the assumption that the existing pay plan for part - time, temporary and seasonal employees would remain in place for another year. Relationship to Vision This item relates to Goal E: Deliver effective and efficient public services by a staff of well- trained, caring and professional employees. Requested Action If the Council concurs, it is asked to offer Resolution No. 7261, a resolution establishing the 2013 Pay Plan for Part -Time, Temporary and Seasonal Employees, and move its adoption.
