SUBJECT: Resolution for an Amendment to the Southwest Metro Drug Task
Force 2012 Grant Agreement to Include Funding Through 2013

ACTION SOUGHT
The Council is asked to consider Resolution Number 7243, a Resolution of the City of
Shakopee for the Southwest Metro Drug Task Force, accepting an amendment to the
current 2012 grant agreement that will extend the grant through 2013 and will include the
same level of funding.
BACKGROUND
The Shakopee Police Department has been a member of the Southwest Metro Drug Task
Force since its inception in 1988 and remains the financial agent to administer grant
funds that partially fund the task force. The Southwest Metro Drug Task Force was
successful in securing grant funds from the federal government to partially fund its
operating expenses in 2012. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Office of
Justice Programs, acts as the grant administrator for the federal government.
City Council approved the current grant agreement in February of 2012. This
amendment to the 2012 grant agreement will extend the term of the original agreement to
continue through 2013 and will include the same level of funding.
BUDGET IMPACT
This amendment does not impact the services provided by the Southwest Metro Drug
Task Force. There is no impact on the police department budget.

private sector entities.

ACTION REQUESTED
If City Council concurs, it should, by motion, adopt Resolution Number 7243, a
Resolution of the City of Shakopee, Minnesota, amending the 2012 grant agreement for
the Southwest Metro Drug Task Force to include the same level of funding through 2013.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA,
AMENDING THE 2012 GRANT AGREEMENT FOR THE
SOUTHWEST METRO DRUG TASK FORCE
TO INCLUDE SAME LEVEL OF FUNDING THROUGH 2013
WHEREAS, the City has been a participating member of the Southwest Metro
Drug Task Force since its inception; and
WHEREAS, the Task Force has successfully brought about numerous drug
convictions; and
WHEREAS, each year the City enters into a cooperative agreement in order to
continue to participate; and
WHEREAS, the City currently serves as the financial agent of the Task Force and
has served in that capacity for several years; and
WHEREAS, in the capacity of financial agent, the City has entered into a
cooperative agreement with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Office of Justice
Programs, to administer federal grant finids that partially fund the Task Force; and
WHEREAS, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety has amended the 2012
grant agreement to reflect an extension of the agreement term through 2013 and to add
the same level of funding as in 2012.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, that the Mayor, City Administrator, and City
Clerk are hereby authorized to enter into a cooperative agreement with the Minnesota
Department of Public Safety, Office of Justice Programs, amending the current grant
agreement for the project entitled Narcotics and Gang Task Force 2012, for the
Southwest Metro Drug Task Force.
Adopted in regular session of the City Council of the City of Shakopee,
Minnesota, held this 7th day of November 2012.
