CITY OF SHAKOPEE To: Mayor and City Council COSET Mark McNeill, City Administrator From: Jeanette Shaner, Deputy City Clerk Meeting Date: October 2, 2012 Subject: Appointment of Election Judges MEMORANDUM ACTION SOUGHT: In this memo, it is recommended that the City Council take the following action: Pass a motion approving Resolution No. 7238, A Resolution Appointing Judges of Election and Establishing Compensation. INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND: Minnesota State Statutes require that election judges be appointed by the governing body 25 days prior to the election. The attached resolution appoints judges for the November 6, 2012 General Election. RELATIONSHIP TO VISIONING: This supports Goal F Housekeeping. ACTION REQUIRED: Offer Resolution No. 7238, A Resolution Appointing Judges of Election and Establishing Compensation, and move its adoption. RESOLUTION NO. 7238 A RESOLUTION APPOINTING JUDGES OF ELECTION AND ESTABLISHING COMPENSATION WHEREAS, the City Council is required by law to provide election judges to conduct the General Election, and WHEREAS, staff has provided the names of person who are willing and qualified to serve in said capacity, and WHEREAS, the election judges shall be compensated for their work at the rate of $8.75 per hour and the Chairperson of the election judges shall be compensated at the rate of $9.75 per hour. Only those persons duly qualified and duly trained to serve as an election judge may be selected to serve in this capacity.
