SUBJECT: Authorization to Promote to Police Officer — Philip Sendelbach

INTRODUCTION:
The Police Department is requesting Council approval to promote Philip Sendelbach to the
position of police officer.
BACKGROUND:
The Police Department currently has one vacancy in the ranks of the 37 patrol officers
authorized by the 2012 operating budget. The Police Civil Service Commission has conducted
the necessary testing and established an eligible register of candidates for the position. The
following are the top three candidates on the eligible register, listed in alphabetical order:
Souphaphone Daoheuang
Jesse Ruttger
Philip Sendelbach
Mr. Sendelbach is currently a Community Service Officer for the Department.
RECOMMENDATION:
Chief Tate recommends that the City Council authorize the promotion of Philip Sendelbach to
the position of police officer, at Step 1 of the current labor contract, subject to the successful
completion of the required pre - employment functional capacity assessment and the City's
standard one -year probationary period.
RELATIONSHIP TO GOALS:
This agenda item relates to Goal E: Deliver effective and efficient public services by a staff of
well- trained, caring and professional employees.
ACTION REQUESTED:
If the Council concurs, they should offer a motion to authorize the promotion of Philip
Sendelbach to the position of police officer at Step 1 of the current labor contract effective
September 24, 2012; subject to the successful completion of required pre - employment functional
capacity assessment and the City's standard one -year probationary period.
