SUBJECT: Accepting the Donation of Trees and Tree Services for the Valley Creek
Crossing Park

INTRODUCTION:
Attached is Resolution No. 6545, a resolution declaring the donation of trees and. tree
spading services at the Valley Creek Crossing Park with an estimated value greater than
$1000.
BACKGROUND:
Mr. Al King, a resident residing at 9084 Windsor Court in Shakopee, provided the tree
spading services to transplant three Sugar maples and one Cedar tree from his property to
the park property in the Valley Creek Crossing Park. .The four trees were planted in City
approved locations in the spring of 2006 and observations indicate the trees are in good
condition. No signs of stress were observed during the numerous site visits. All four
trees will be utilized in the park design as natural amenities for the benefit of residents
using the park for recreational activities.
In compliance with Resolution No. -5794 specifying cash donations of over $1000 be
accepted by resolution of the City Council this .resolution is being offered for your
consideration.
ALTERNATIVES:
1. Adopt Resolution No. 6545.
2. Deny Resolution No. 6545.
3. Adopt Resolution No. 6545, with Council modifications.
4. Tablefor additional information.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends Alternative No.1, to adopt Resolution No. 6545, accepting the
donation of trees and tree services for the Valley Creek Crossing Park.

RESOLUTION NO. 6545
A RESOLUTION OF THE. CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA,
ACCEPTING THE DONATION OF MULTIPLE TREES AND SPADING SERVICES
AT THE V ALLEY CREEK CROSSING PARK
WHEREAS, on November 6, 2002, the City Council adopted ResolutionNo.
5794, which established procedure relating to the receipt of gifts and donations by the
City; and
WHEREAS, Resolution No. 5794 specifies that cash donations of over $1,000
shall be accepted by resolution of the City Council, and shall require a two-thirds
majority of the Council for acceptance; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Al King, a resident residing at 9084 Windsor Court in Shakopee,
MN, generously donated four trees and tree spading services for the transplanting of three
maple trees and one cedar tree in the Valley Creek Crossing Park which will be enjoyed
by residents utilizing the park; and
WHEREAS, such a donation will enhance the Valley Creek Crossing Park and
overall qualityoflife in Shakopee.
NOW, THEREFORE, BEITRESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE

CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, that the tree. and tree spading services donation in
an amount greater than $1000 be gratefully accepted; and
FURTHER, that City staff is directed to send a letter to the donor, acknowledging
receipt of the gift and expressing the appreciation of the City Council.
Adopted in adjourned regular session of the City Council of the City of Shako pee,
Minnesota, held this 19th day of December, 2006.
