CITY OF SHAKOPEE Memorandum TO: Mayor & City Council CONSENT Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Jeff Weyandt, Assistant City Engineer SUBJECT: Ordering a Topographical Survey for the Dean Lakes Trail Extension and the Southbridge Trail Extension DATE: December 19, 2006 INTRODUCTION: The Dean Lakes Trail Extension and Southbridge Trail Extension are included in the City's 2007 Capital Improvement Program. In order to design these projects over the winter staff is requesting authorization to enter into an extension agreement with WSB & Associates, Inc. to perform a topographical survey. Attached to this memo is an extension agreement from WSB & Associates, Inc. with a not-to-exceed amount of $6,280.00. ALTERNATIVES: 1. Authorize the appropriate City officials to execute an extension agreement with WSB & Associates, Inc. 2. Do not authorize the appropriate City officials to execute an extension agreement with WSB & Associates, Inc. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends Alternative No.1. Assistant City Engineer City of Shakopee 500 Gorman Street Shakopee,~ 55379-1376 Re: Extension Agreement to Provide Topographic Surveying Services Trail A and B Dear Mr. Weyandt: According to our Agreement for Professional Services within the City of Shako pee and Section I-C-2 (Major Projects), this extension agreement is written to provide topographic surveying services for the above-referenced project. It is our understanding, based on your request for proposal, that this project consists of approximately 2,400 linear feet of proposed trail along the south side ofT.H. No. 169, Trail A; and approximately 1,600 linear feet of proposed trial from Cambridge Road to just south of Whitehall Road, Trail B. This survey would include all requirements as identified in your request for proposal. WSB will provide the survey data as required for the design ofthis project on 1m hourly basis, as necessary, in accordance with our current fee schedule, with a not-to-exceed fee of$6,280. Please review the attached spreadsheet outlining specific task, hours, and costs. We are available to start this work as soon as it is authorized and look forward to the opportunity to serve you. Construction: $198,700 (Park Reserve) Paved trail from Wakefield to the west side of Dean Lake. Trail would be bituminous with a bridge to cross the outlet channel. Trail Construction at $30/LF for 2800 feet=$84,OOO Bridge 10' wide by 20'long+ bridge footings 20,000=$135,500 Engineering/Admin: Design and engineering, (5% of project cost) (Park Reserve). Justification Identified in Southbridge Master Plan. Trail through Dean Lakes Development is constructed and dead ends at city property. The improvements identified in this project are a portion of the overall master plan Other Comments Estimated cost for total development of the system based on the master plan is $3 million (2001).
