CITY OF SHAKOPEE
MEMORANDUM
To: Mayor and City.Council
Mark McNeill, City Administrator
From: Mark Themig, Parks, Recreation, and Facilities Director
Meeting Date: December 19, 2006
Subject: Acceptance of Donation of Historic Shakopee Bricks for Huber Park,
Resolution No. 6551
INTRODUCTION
City Council is asked to accept a donation of historic Shakopee Brick for the Huber Park
project from Charles and Mary Breeggemann by authorizing. Resolution No. 6551, A
Resolution Accepting the Donation of Historic Shakopee Bricks for the Huber Park
Project.
DISCUSSION
Elements of the design of Huber Park attempt to reflect the historic aspects of downtown
Shakopee. One of those elements is the steel and brick used on the building,
performance area, and entry monuments.
During the design, Ed and Don Wagner indicated that Shako pee residents Charles and
Mary Breeggemann had rare historic Shakopee bricks that possibly could be
incorporated into the design. The bricks were made in the Shroeder brickyard located
along the Minnesota River.
I was able to meet with the Breeggemanns and the Breeggemanns have graciously
agreed to donate historic bricks. The architect has designed the building to incorporate
the bricks as accents to the building. Since the bricks are somewhat susceptible to the
elements, they will be located higher on the building to reduce their exposure to the
elements.
We will be acknowledging the Breeggemann's contribution on the interpretive signage
panels that will be installed in the building's breezeway.
