SUBJECT: Retirement of Firefighter Marty Glynn

Introduction
The City Council is asked to accept the resignation of firefighter Marty Glynn.
Background
After 29 years of service to the Shakopee Fire Department, Marty Glynn has submitted
notice of his intent to retire, effective September 30, 2012.
The attached Resolution of Appreciation, recognizing his many years of service and
contributions to the Department, has been prepared for Council's consideration.
Requested Action: The Council is asked to offer a motion to accept with regret the
resignation of Marty Glynn from the Shakopee Fire Department effective September 30,
2012; and offer Resolution No. 7229, a Resolution of Appreciation for Marty Glynn, and
move its adoption.
RESOLUTION NO. 7229
A RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION TO MARTIN W. GLYNN
WHEREAS, the residents of the City of Shakopee have had the good fortune of having
the services of skilled and dedicated firefighters available for more than 125 years; and
WHEREAS, those individuals who are members of the City's Fire Department give
many hours of their time for training, community service and emergency response within the
City and surrounding areas; and
WHEREAS, Martin W. Glynn has been a member of the Shakopee Fire Department
since September 8, 1983; and
WHEREAS, Marty diligently and unselfishly served the residents of the City of
Shakopee during his 29 years with the Shakopee Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, Marty served the Department in multiple leadership roles, including the
positions of Engineer, Captain, and Deputy Chief of Training; and
WHEREAS, Marty faithfully responded to countless fire and emergency calls regardless
of the untimeliness of said calls and personal and family disruptions; and
WHEREAS, on many occasions Marty put the health, safety and welfare of Shakopee
residents ahead of his own personal safety.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of
Shakopee hereby extends its sincerest thanks and appreciation to Mr. Martin W. Glynn for his 29
years of dedicated service to the Shakopee Fire Department and the community at large, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Council extends its best
wishes for every happiness and success to Marty in his future endeavors.
Adopted in regular session of the City Council of the City of Shakopee, held this 4 day
of September, 2012.
