CITY OF SHAKOPEE POLICE DEPARTMENT CONSENT Memorandum TO: Mayor and City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Jeff Tate, Chief of Police /Emergency Management Director SUBJECT: Accept Donation from the Shakopee Jaycees by Resolution Number 7230 DATE: September 4, 2012 Action Sought: City Council is asked to adopt Resolution Number 7230, a Resolution accepting a $1,000.00 donation from the Shakopee Jaycees, to be used towards the purchase of a traffic feedback sign. Background: The Shakopee Jaycees have made a gracious donation of $1,000.00 to the police department to purchase traffic feedback signs in the city. The traffic safety committee has looked into the purchase of these signs and believes the signs will enhance traffic safety in Shakopee. Visioning Relationship: This action supports: Goal D: Maintain, improve and create strong partnerships with other public and private sector entities. Action Requested: If City Council concurs, it should, by motion, adopt Resolution Number 7230, a Resolution of the City of Shakopee, Minnesota, accepting the donation of $1,000.00 from the Shakopee Jaycees to purchase a traffic feedback sign. RESOLUTION NO. 7230 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, ACCEPTING $1,000 FROM THE SHAKOPEE JAYCEES TO PURCHASE A TRAFFIC FEEDBACK SIGN WHEREAS, on November 6, 2002, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 5794, which established procedure relating to the receipt of gifts and donations by the City; and WHEREAS, Resolution No. 5794 specifies that donations valued at more than $1,000 shall be accepted by resolution of the City Council, and shall require a two - thirds majority of the Council for acceptance; and WHEREAS, the Shakopee Jaycees have graciously donated $1,000 to the Shakopee Police Department for the purchase of a traffic feedback sign. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, that the donation of $1,000 is gratefully accepted; and FURTHER, that City staff is directed to send a letter to the donor, acknowledging receipt of the gift and expressing the appreciation of the City Council.
