V. �#��,���� ;, CITY OF SHAKOPEE �� � �� � � t � � � � � Police Department Memorandum TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Jeff Tate, Chief of Police/Emergency Management Directar SUBJECT: Resolution for an Amendment to the Southwest Metro Drug Task Force Grant Agreement DATE: December 6, 2011 INTRODUCTION The Council is asked to consider Resolution Number 7148, a Resolution of the City of Shakopee for the Southwest Metro Drug Task Force accepting an amendment to the current grant agreement for 2011. BACKGROUND ' The Shakopee Police Department has been a member of the Southwest Metro Drug Task Force since its inception in 1988 and remains the financial agent to administer grant funds that partially fund the task force. The Southwest Metro Drug Task Force was successful in securing grant funds from the federal government to partially fund its operating expenses in 2011. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Office of Justice Programs, acts as the grant administrator for the federal government. City Council approved the current grant agreement in January 2011. The amount of funding from July 1, 2011, through December 31, 2011, has been changed slightly and is reflected in the attached Crrant Agreement Amendment. The attached amendment was sent to the City on November 30, 2011. BUDGET-IMPACT This amendment does not impact the services provided by the Southwest Metro Drug Task Force. There is no impact on the police departmentbudget. 1 VISIONING RELATIONSHIP This action supports: Goa1 D: Maintain, improve and create strong partnerships with other public and private sector entities. ACTION REQUESTED If City Council concurs, it should, by motion, offer Resolution Number 7148, a Resolution of the City of Shakopee, Minnesota, Amending the 2011 Grant Agreement for the Southwest Metro Drug Task Force, and move its adoption. Attachment: Grant Agreement Amendment � 2 RESOLUTION NO. 7148 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, AMENDING THE 2011 GRANT AGREEMENT FOR THE SOUTHWEST METRO DRUG TASK FORCE WHEREAS, the City has been a participating member ofthe Southwest Metro Drug Task Force since its inception; and WHEREAS, the Task Force has successfully brought about numerous drug � convictions; and WHEREAS, each year the City enters into a cooperative agreement in order to continue to participate; and WHEREAS, the City currently serves as the financial agent of the Task Force and has served in that capacity for several years; and WHEREAS, in the capacity of financial agent, the City has entered into a cooperative agreement with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Office of Justice Programs, to administer federal grant funds that partially fund the Task Force; and WHEREAS, the Minnesota Deparhnent of Public Safety has amended the 2011 agreement to reflect final grant award axnounts for July 1, 2011, through December 31; 201 L NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, that the Mayor, City Administrator, and City Clerk are hereby authorized to enter into a cooperative agreement with the Minriesota Department of Public Safety, Office of Jusnce Programs, amending the current 2011 agreement for the project entitled Southwest Metro Drug Task Force for 201 L Adopted in regular session of the City Council of fhe City of Shakopee, Minnesota, held this 6th day of December 2011.
