SUBJECT: Extension of Light Duty
DATE: November 9, 2011
Introduction
The City Council is asked to authorize an additional three months of light duty assignment for
Officer Brad Bisek of Yhe Police Department.
Background
The City's policy on restricted or "light-duty" work assignments requires City Council approval
for an employee to remain on light duty for more than six months. Office Bisek was injured
during a Department training exercise in November of 2010. Based on the work restriction
reports received from his doctor, he has been on intermittent light-duty since that time. His most
recent light-duty assignment began May 17, 2011. Therefore the six months that staff is able to
extend to him expires November 16.
Recommendation
Chief Tate recoinmends that Officer Bisek's light duty status be exYended for up to an additional
three months (November 17, 2011 — February 16, 2012). If his doctor clears him to return to
work with no restrictions prior to that date then his light duty assignment will be lifted and he
will return to patrol.
Requested Action
If it concurs, the Council should offer a motion to authorize continued light duty status for Office
Brad Bisek up through February 16, 2012.
