I � Background i Due to a staff resignation, the City operated with only one of our two IT staff positions filled for three i � and a half months. Our new IT Specialist starts October 31, however, several projects have had to be � I � I delayed in order to focus on the day to day work of the IT division during the vacancy. Therefore, staff is ; � seeking Council authorization to use unspent wage and benefit funds from the IT budget to hire St. Croix i I Solutions to assist with certain projects on the work plan in order to allow the division to catch up. i � � f er r v' win � A t e ie g the work that needs to be completed within the IT division, staff has determined that i the most logical place to utilize consulting services is in relation to the set-up, programming and I , mapping of the new SANs. This is a one-time project that the consultant can complete largely � independently from start to finish, as compared to jumping into other projects that staff has in progress � or where staff needs to be hands on in order to have the background necessary for ongoing ' � maintenance. ; ; Budget Impact I � � The cost of hiring St. Croix Solutions for the proposed work is $18,720. This is less than the amount of i unspent funds from three and a half months of unpaid wages and benefits for the IT Specialist position, and therefore can be accommodated within the adopted 2011 general fund budget for the IT division. � Relationship to Vision I , This is a housekeeping item. i I � ' Requested Action � � , If the Council concurs, it is asked to authorize the hiring of St. Croix Solutions for set-up, programming and ma in of the new SANs at a cost not to exceed $19,000.
