Greenfield East/Park Meadow Park Project PR 2011-1 Change Orders _ _ _ _ _ ___ I ' . ` s , ' CITY OF SHAKOPEE ' Memorandum ' To: Mayor and City Council ' Mark McNeill, City Administrator ' , ' ° ' i ;: . i • From: Jamie Polley, Directar of Parks, Recreation & Natural Resources Subject: Greenfield East/Park Meadows Park- project PR 2011-1, Change Order 1 through 3 i Meeting Date: November 1, 2011 INTRODUCTION j City Council is asked to approve Change Order 1 through 3 far Greenfield East/Park Meadows Park, i project PR 2011-1, i DISCUSSION I Change Order 1 and 2 are being brough to the City Council following their completion to inform you of the change orders and receive your approval for the additional funding. Both changes were required ; changes to complete necessary items and keep the project on schedule. Change Order 3 has not yet been ' I completed and staff is requesting the City Council's approval for additional funding. Change Order 1 was to cut Thrush St to install sanitary sewer service into the park The Change Order also includes removing and replacing the bituminous. The as-built drawings of the site from the developer showed the sanitary sewer stubbed into the park. When the contractar opened up the area where the stub was indicated the pipe was not in place. The total cost of the Change Order 1 is $7,998.05. Change Order 2 was to excavate the playground area. Because the playground was not part of the I General Contractor's contract the requirement of the general contractor was to rough grade the playground area for the playground to be installed by others. The playbround selection, coordination and planning was completed by staf£ Due to heavy workloads and timing City staff was unable to dig out the playground as they have done in other parks. The cost of Change Order 2 is $2,125.00. I Change Order 3 is to upgrade the basketball posts for safety reasons. The posts that were speced for the project had a five foot overhang over the hockey boards. It was perceived that this would be sufficient clearance, however when the posts arrived on site and set in place the overhang does not allow the ' clearance needed to eliminate injury when people are playing hockey. The upgraded posts will have an eight foot overhang to allow them to be further back from the hockey boards. This is an additional foot from the ones installed at the Westminster hockey rink that do have sufficient clearance. The additional cost of Change Order 3 is $2,100.00. Staff is suggesting that the amount for the three change orders be funded utilizing the Park Reserve Fund if needed. At this time the change orders are estimated to fall within the allocated budget for the project. I ' RELATIONSHIP TO VISION ' F. Housekeeping I I REOUESTED ACTION ' City Council is asked to authorize, by motion, the Change Orders 1 through 3 for Greenfield East/Park ! Meadows Park for $12,223.05 in favor of Chard Tiling & Excavating, Inc. . I I
