CITY OF SHAKOPEE
Memorandum
TO: Mayor and City Council
Mark McNeill, City Administrator
FROM: Jamie Polley, Director and Parks, Recreation, and Natural Resources
SUBJECT: Westminster Park Building Quotes
DATE: October 4, 2011
Comment:
Introduction:
The Council is asked to approve quotes for portions of work on the Westminister Park
shelter building that will exceed $15,000.
Background:
At the City Council meeting of September 6 the Council gave authorization for the
City's Public Works crew to be the general contractor for the construction of a park
shelter building at Westminster Park. The total cost of purchases for materials and
outside labor for the structure is not to exceed $130,000.
While staff has received overall approval to construct the building, City Council action is
still needed for those quotes for the components of construction which are in excess of
$15,000. Staff has previously advised Council that work will proceed upon receipt of
the quotes, so as not to jeopardize the completion of the building this fall.
Following is a summary of those quotes:
AJ Concrete, and Concrete Block
1. S and R Construction $31,550.00
2. Dorn Construction $33,075.00
B] Plumbing
1. Minnesota Plumbing & Heating $25,243.00
2.Associated Mechanical $36,250.00
C] Lumber
1. Link Lumber Company $15,720.82
2. Scherer Brothers $17,239.43
Budget Impact:
Funding of the construction of the park shelter building will come from the Park Reserve
Fund. Again, the overall cost is capped at $130,000.
Relationship o Visioning:
P g
This supports Goal A, "Keep Shakopee a safe and healthy community, where residents
can pursue active and quality lifestyles."
Recommendation:
I recommend that the quotes from S and R Construction, Minnesota Plumbing and
Heating, and Link Lumber be accepted and authorized for purchase.
Action Required:
If the Council approves, it should, by motion, authorize the purchase of services or
materials from S and R Construction, Minnesota Plumbing and Heating, and Link
Lumber, according to quotes submitted for the construction of the Westminister Park
shelter building.
