SUBJECT: Request to Accept Shakopee Rotary Donation by
Resolution No. 7115

INTRODUCTION:
The Shakopee Police Department is offering Resolution No.7115, a Resolution to accept
$1,700 from Shakopee Rotary for the purchase of a new defibrillator and pads to be used
at the Shakopee Aquatic Park and Ice Arena.
BACKGROUND:
The Shakopee Rotary Club has graciously donated $1,700 to the City of Shakopee so a
new defibrillator and pads can be purchased for the Shakopee Aquatic Park and Ice
Arena. The police department frequently purchases supplies for these devices so we have
taken on the task of coordinating the purchase of this device for the Aquatic Park and Ice
Arena. This is a valuable piece of equipment that has already helped save multiple lives
in Shakopee.

RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends alternative #1.

The City Council , if they concur, should offer Resolution No. 7115, a Resolution of the
City of Shakopee, Minnesota, Accepting a $1,700 Donation from Shakopee Rotary for
the Purchase of a Defibrillator for the Aquatic Park and Ice Arena, and move its adoption.

RESOLUTION NO. 7115
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA,
ACCEPTING $1,700.00 FROM SHAKOPEE ROTARY TO PURCHASE A
DEFRIBULATOR FOR THE AQAUTIC PARK AND ICE AREANA
WHEREAS, on November 6, 2002, the City Council adopted Resolution No.
5794, which established procedure relating to the receipt of gifts and donations by the
City; and
WHEREAS, Resolution No. 5794 specifies that donations valued at more than
$1,000 shall be accepted by resolution of the City Council, and shall require a two- thirds
majority of the Council for acceptance; and
WHEREAS, Shakopee Rotary has graciously donated $1,700.00 to the City of
Shakopee for the purchase of a new defibrillator and pads to be used at the Shakopee
Aquatic Park and Ice Arena.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, that the donation of $1,700 is gratefully
accepted; and
FURTHER, that City staff is directed to send a letter to the donor, acknowledging
receipt of the gift and expressing the appreciation of the City Council.
Adopted in adjourned regular session of the City Council of the City of Shakopee,
Minnesota, held this 16 day of August, 2011.
