SUBJECT: Approval of Quote for O'Dowd Trail Bituminous Trail Overlay
DATE: August 16, 2011
INTRODUCTION:
This Council agenda item is to approve the low quote for the bituminous trail overlay for
O'Dowd Trail, from C.R. 79 to Stonebrooke.
BACKGROUND:
The 2011 Budget under the Park Asset Fund has $30,000.00 budgeted for trail overlay. The park
system has 30 miles of trails and the trail in O'Dowd Park, from C.R. 79 to Stonebrooke Golf
Course, is the trail scheduled to be overlaid.
Quotes were received and are shown as follows and per attachment:
1. Purple Pride $21,032.50
2. Phehal Blacktopping $23,540.00
3. Southwest Paving $22,000.00 (Time and material on patching work)
4. Chard $28,500.00 (No bid received on patching work)
Staff would recommend awarding the low quote to Purple Pride of Shakopee, Minnesota.
Funding of the work would be from the Park Asset Fund.
ALTERNATIVES:
1. Approve a motion awarding a contract to Purple Pride for the O'Dowd Trail Overlay
Project.
2. Approve a 5% contingency amount for this project for use by the City Engineer in
authorizing change orders or quantity adjustments on the project.
3. Table for additional information.

RECOMMENDATION:
Staff would recommend awarding a contract to Purple Pride for the O'Dowd Trail Overlay
Project and since this is a unit price bid to approve a 5% contingency amount for this project for
use by the City Engineer in authorizing change orders or quantity adjustments on the project.
ACTION REQUESTED:
1. Approve a motion awarding a contract to Purple Pride for the O'Dowd Trail Overlay
Project.
2. Approve a 5% contingency amount for this project for use by the City Engineer in
authorizing change orders or quantity adjustments on the project.
