INTRODUCTION:
The Police Department is requesting Council approval to hire Tamara Helgeson for the position
of Police Records Supervisor.
BACKGROUND:
The Police Civil Service Commission has completed the necessary testing for the position of
Police Records Supervisor and certified an eligible register. The top three candidates on the
eligible register are (in alphabetical order):
Jennifer Boudreau
Tamara Helgeson
Sandra Persons
RELATIONSHIP TO GOALS:
This item relates to Goal E: Deliver effective and efficient public services by a staff of well -
trained, caring and professional employees.
RECOMMENDATION:
Chief Tate recommends hiring Tamara Helgeson for the position, subject to successful
completion of the required pre - employment background check and physical /drug test. The
position is in Grade 6 of the City's non -union pay plan and it is proposed that Ms. Helgeson be
hired at Step D of the pay grade, which is $26.54 per hour or $55,211 per year, and that she be
granted a starting vacation balance of 40 hours and a starting sick leave balance of 40 hours. Her
start date is estimated to be on or about July 1, depending on the timing and outcome of her
background check and pre - employment physical.
ACTION REQUESTED:
If the Council concurs, they should, by motion, authorize the hiring of Tamara Helgeson for the
position of Police Records Supervisor, at Step D of Grade 6 ($26.54 per hour) of the City's Non -
Union Pay Plan and with a starting balance of 40 hours of vacation and 40 hours of sick leave,
dependent on the successful completion of all pre - employment screenings.
