BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION: During the 2010 budget process the City Council reviewed and approved a budget improvement package to make improvements to the front of the Community Center. The improvements included repairing the pillars and adding planters. The amount of funding that was allocated was $20,000 to be paid utilizing the general fund. The project was put on hold when the City decided to go to referendum for Community Center Improvements. In November the referendum failed allowing the project to move forward. However due to the time of year and the work to be completed, the exterior improvements could not be completed in 2010. The pillars in front of the Community Center continue to deteriorate and are becoming dangerous. In addition when the concrete was added to the entry way along with the water infiltration project it was intended that the City would add planters to the concrete area. Adding planters and fixing the pillars will assist in making the Community Center more inviting to the community. RELATIONSHIP TO VISIONING: This supports Goal A, "Keep Shakopee a safe and healthy community, where residents can pursue active and quality lifestyles." ACTION REQUIRED: If the Council concurs, direct staff to prepare a budget amendment to approve the funding for the Community Center exterior improvements in the amount of $20,000 to be carried over from the 2010 budget.
