Memorandum
TO: Mayor and City Council
FROM: Mark McNeill, City Administrator
SUBJECT: Cancel — February 22 " Joint Meeting with County Board
DATE: February 9, 2011
INTRODUCTION:
The Council is asked to take action to cancel what had been scheduled as a joint meeting with the
County Board, on February 22, 2011.
BACKGROUND:
RECOMMENDATION:
RELATIONSHIP TO VISIONING:
Last month, we received information from Scott County that they were looking to hold one Board
meeting in each of the five Commissioner Districts in Scott County throughout the year and in the
evening. This was in response to a stated desire to make the Board meetings more accessible to the
public.
Shakopee is scheduled to be the first of these meetings, and they were invited to hold it in Shakopee
City Hall (as all of the other evening County Board meetings are being held in City Halls). We had
understood this to be a joint meeting opportunity between the City Council and County Board.
However, it has since become clear that this must be the regular meeting for the County Board that
week, and while Shakopee City Council Members are encouraged and welcomed to attend, there will
not be official action taken between the two groups. For that reason, the joint meeting which had been
scheduled should be cancelled. The County Board meeting, however, will still take place at 6:30 PM in
the City Council Chambers.
City Council Members are advised that a presentation will be held concerning the 494 and 169
intersection improvements, and the status of the intersection reconstruction at T.N. 13 /C.R. 101. There
will also be a bus tour of Shakopee CDA facilities and Shakopee transportation projects earlier in the
day.
In order to allow the County Board to hold its regular meeting, the previously - scheduled joint meeting
with the County Board should be cancelled.
This relates to Goal D, "Maintain, improve and create strong partnerships with other public and private
entities ". .
ACTION REQUIRED:
If the Council concurs, it should, by motion, cancel the previously scheduled joint meeting with the
County Board at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 22, 2011.
If it does, it should, at the conclusion of the February 15 meeting, adjourn to Tuesday, March 1, 2011,
at 7:00 p.m.
