CITY OF SHAKOPEE CO'1SEN Memorandum TO: Mayor and City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Jamie Polley, Director of Parks, Recreation & Natural Resources SUBJECT: Green Meadows Park Building Quotes DATE: July 31, 2012 ACTION SOUGHT If approved, the City Council should authorize the purchase of services or materials from Dorn Construction, Minnesota Plumbing and Heating, and Link Lumber Company for portions of work on the Green Meadows Park shelter building that will exceed $15,000. BACKGROUND At the City Council meeting of February 8 the Council gave authorization for the City's Public Works crew to be the general contractor for the construction of a park shelter building at Green Meadows Park. The total cost of purchases for materials and outside labor for the structure is not to exceed $130,000.00. While staff has received overall approval to construct the building, City Council action is needed for those quotes for the components of construction which are in excess of $15,000. Following is a summary of the quotes: A] Concrete Block -Block 1. Greystone Construction $48,152.00 2. Dom Construction $40,868.00 B] Plumbing 1. Minnesota Plumbing & Heating $29,157.00 2. Associated Mechanical $38,195.00 C] Lumber 1. Link Lumber Company $16,355.75 2. Scherer Brothers $16,738.51 BUDGET IMPACT Funding of the construction of the park shelter building will come from the Park Reserve Fund. Again, the overall cost is capped at $130,000.00. RELATIONSHIP TO VISION A — Keep Shakopee a safe and healthy community, where residents can pursue active and quality lifestyles. RECOMMENDATION I recommend that the quotes from Dorn Construction, Minnesota Plumbing and Heating, and Link Lumber Company be accepted and authorizes for purchase. ACTION REQUIRED If the City Council approves, it should, by motion authorize the purchase of services or materials from Dorn Construction, Minnesota Plumbing and Heating, and Link Lumber Company, according to quotes submitted for the construction of the Green Meadows Park shelter building.
