SUBJECT: Purchase of Light Trucks for Engineering and Public Works.
INTRODUCTION:
Council is requested to authorize the purchase of two light trucks identified in the 2011 (carried
over) and 2012 Capital Equipment Budgets. Staff's Budget estimate for this combined purchase
is $45,000.00.
BACKGROUND:
Staff is requesting to replace unit # 303 a 2001 Chevy 4x4 extended cab, carried over from the
20ll Capital Equipment Budget, due to the late time of year, and unit # 302 a GMC 4x4
extended cab, identified in the 2012 Capital Equipment Budget. Unit # 303 will be retained and
handed down to the park maintenance division. Unit # 156 a 1994 Chevy S10, which just had
the transmission fail, will be declared surplus and sent to the scrap-yard. Unit # 302 is in poor
condition but will be sold at auction. Staff will be utilizing State of Minnesota Contract pricing
for the purchase, State Contract # 37667, for one new Ford F150 4x4 extended cab for the
Engineering Division. The price with options is $23,439.70. Staff will also be purchasing a
Ford F150 4x2 extended cab for the Public Works Right-of-way Technician (formerly from
engineering), for the price with options of $20,479.26. Total price of purchase is $43,918.96,
with the funds to be expended from the Internal Service Equipment Fund.
ALTERNATIVES:
1. Authorize the purchase of two light trucks from Midway Ford for the price of
$43, 918.96
2. Deny the request.
3. Table for additional information.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends alternative number one.
ACTION REOUESTED:
1. Move to authorize staff to purchase two light trucks from Midway Ford for the price of
$43,918.96 with the funds to be expended from the Internal Service Equipment Fund.
2. Move to declare Unit #302 a 2002 GMC 4x4 extended cab, far sale at auction, and Unit #
156, for disposal, as surplus equipment.
