No. 7167 ������ �_ .. �_ CITY OF SHAKOPEE LL �- � J Police Department Memorandum TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Mazk McNeill, City Adminisnator FROM: Jeff Tate, Chief of Police/Emergency Management Director SUBJECT: Resolution for Crrant Agreement for the Southwest Metro Drug Task Force DATE: F'ebruan• 21, 2�12 INTRODUCTION The Council is asked to consider Resolution Number 7167, a Resolution of the City of Shakopee approving Grant Agreement No: NTGF-20] 2-00020 with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Office of Justice Programs in which Shakopee serves as the financial agent to administer grant funds that partially fund the Southwest Metro Drug Task Force. BACKGROUND For many years the state and federal govemments have encouraged local law enforeement agencies to form regional drug task forces to investigate drug law violations. Federal and state money is distributed to these task forces to support their operation. The Shakopee Police Department has been a member of the Southwest Metro Drug Task Force since its inception in 1988 and wishes to continue participating in the Task Force. The City currently serves as the financial agent of the Task Force and has served in Yhat capacity for several years. The Southwest Metro Drug Task Force was successful in securing erant funds from the federal govemment to partially fund its operatin� expenses in 2012. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Office of Justice Programs acts as the grant administrator for the federal government. As the financial agent, the City is required to approve the proposed grant agreement in the amount of $81,630.00. This grant agreement is the same as was given to the Southwest Metro Drug Task Force last year, which council also approved. 1 BUDGETIMPACT There is no impact on the police department budget. Z RESOLtiTION N0. 7167 A RESOLUTION OF THE CI1'Y OF SHAKOPFE, MiNNESOTA, APPROVING GRANT AGREEMENT NO: NTGF-2012-00020 VJITH THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY WHEREAS, the City has been a participating member of the Southwest Metro Drug Task Force since its inception; and WAEREAS, the Task Force has successfully brought about numerous drug convictions; and WHF,REAS, each yeax the City enters into a cooperative agreement in ordei to continue to pariicipate; and WHEREAS, the City currently serves as the financial agent of the Task Force and has served in that capacity for several years. WHEREAS, in the capacity of tinancial agent, the City has entered into a eooperative ageement with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Office of Justice Programs, to administer federal grant funds that partiallp fund the Task Force. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, that the Mayoi, City Administrator, and City Clerk aze hereby authorized to enter into Grant Agreement NO: NTGP-2012-00020 with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Office of Justice Programs, for the project entitled SouYhwest Metro Drue Task Force for the calendaz year 2012.
