RE: Police Interceptor Purchases
I DATE: January 17, 2012 '
INTRODUCTION:
Council is requested to authorize the purchase of four police interceptor vehicles. As provided in the 2012 budget.
BACKGROUND:
The 2012 budget includes an appropriation of $176,000.00 for the purchase of four police interceptor vehicles. Funding is
from the Capital Equipment Internal Service Fund. Due to the discontinued production of the Ford Crown Victoria, Police
and Fleet Staff have researched the new alternative vehicles available. Both Police and Fleet agree this is an opportunity to
, try the two options offered by Ford, the SUV Utility and Sedan. Both of these options are all wheel drive and at lower cost i
than the Chevrolet Caprice and Dodge Charger. '
The vendor cost far the SLTV Utility is $26,887.82 and the Sedan is $24,922.61. The 2011 price for Crown Victoria's was
$24,198.64. The new Interceptors will replace four models purchased in 2008.

Some of the equipment from the existing syuads may transfer into the new units, but at this time it is unknown what can be
re-used and we may have to purchase all new equipment. New equipment would include radar units, camera's, light bars, ,
computers with docking stations, cages, etc. for an equipment cost of approximately $18.000.00 each including labor to set '
up the vehicles. Total cost of vehicles, equipment and set-up is estimated to be at the budgeted amount of $176,000.00.
Staff will be utilizing State of Minnesota contract number 37669. Total purchase price for two Ford Police Interceptor '
Utility and two Ford Police Interceptor Sedan is $103,620.86. The purchase to be expended from the Capital Equipment
Internal Service Fund.
